Role: Architectural Designer

Modernizing a historic school building requires a dual focus: preserving the architectural legacy while upgrading the facility to meet 21st-century codes. Shahrzad Razi served as the Architectural Designer for the comprehensive modernization of Visitacion Valley Elementary, working under DSK Architects.

The scope prioritized equity and accessibility, transforming the site to be fully ADA compliant with new ramps and path-of-travel upgrades. The project also addressed critical building envelope issues, including a complete roof replacement to protect the historic structure.

Inside, the modernization focused on revitalizing the learning and assembly spaces. Shahrzad managed the design and documentation for new custom casework, lighting upgrades, and the restoration of the historic auditorium, ensuring the school remains a safe, inspiring hub for the community.
