Venice Beach Metal House | Industrial Coastal Modern
Located in the dense urban fabric of Venice Beach, this residence serves as a private sanctuary amidst the energy of the boardwalk. The exterior architecture embraces the neighborhood's gritty industrial history, featuring a corrugated metal rainscreen that provides both durability against the coastal air and a striking visual texture.
Inside, the tough exterior shell gives way to a warm, contemplative interior. We utilized wide-plank white oak flooring throughout to soften the industrial edge and bounce natural light deep into the floor plate.
The heart of the home is the custom library, an intimate 'reading volume' designed as a counterpoint to the open-concept living areas. Lined with floor-to-ceiling millwork and acoustically softened, it offers a dedicated space for quiet focus, proving that tranquility can exist even in the most vibrant urban settings

Indoor-Outdoor Connectivity. In Venice, outdoor space is a premium. We activated the side yard by integrating a light well to illuminate the lower level and an architectural staircase leading to the main entertaining level. The glass railing system ensures transparency, keeping the narrow outdoor corridor feeling open and airy rather than enclosed.

Defining Space Without Walls. Instead of closing off rooms in this open-concept floor plan, we introduced a bold central architectural volume. This terracotta-hued core functions as a multi-purpose element: it separates the hallway from the lounge, houses custom built-in millwork for a library, and anchors the room with a splash of warmth. This technique allows for distinct "zones" (reading, socializing, circulation) while maintaining clear sightlines across the entire floor plate.
